Our new Scunthorpe store opened on 28th June and I had every intention of visiting then. As it turned out we had to go down to Kent to care for our twin 4 year old grandchildren for a few days covering the 28th. Board member Danny Douglas agreed to attend on my behalf for which I was very grateful.
Then came holidays and various commitments but along with husband Peter and Dolly B the intrepid border collie we went up to visit on the ‘glorious’ 12th August.
Despite it being billed as the hottest day of the year it rained in Scunthorpe and much of the east coast.
We found our store which is in a prominent position on a major route traffic island - you have to come off the island into a suburban avenue and enter behind Starbucks. Easy when you know !
I was so pleased that Ben Boothroyd our Manager knew I was coming as new stores manager Mark Freeman had let him know and I also met visiting store manager from Chesterfield area Jayne and Jamie the baker.
It is a beautifully laid out store with a very eye catching events table.
It is a long way from any of our other stores but Jane laughed off the long daily car journey saying she volunteered to help.
The store and the colleagues are a credit to the Society and I hope all colleagues and members will consider calling in to say hello if they find themselves in South Humberside.
It’s also very handy for exploring the long sandy beaches of north and central Lincolnshire which we did afterwards to Dolly’s delight!
My next ‘store tour’ will cover parts of Cambridgeshire , Norfolk and Suffolk in early September.
