Digital Story Telling

Date Published: 18/03/2025 | Blog category: Eastern

On Friday 7th March we spent an inspiring day with Featherbed Tales, pupils at Ravensthorpe Primary School, Westraven Community Garden, residents of Cross Keys Homes and National Literacy Trust for an intergenerational event to explore & learn ways to tell stories about the place that we live. Caroline, the founder of Featherbed Tales, came to Peterborough to run an event that brought generations of Westwood and Ravensthorpe residents together to talk about everything they love about their home and the amazing things that are just on the doorstep.

We started the day in the beautiful sunshine with Luke Payn, Community Gardens Project Manager giving a wonderful tour of the garden, we had to search for 5 things along the way, daffoldils, snowdrops, onions, catkins & frogspawn. An educational & mindfulness experience was had by all.

It was difficult to leave after the hour as there was so much enjoyment to be had in the garden, but we had a full days plan ahead of us back at Cross Keys community hub.

Caroline opened the workshop with some slides of images from the community garden, and we all shared our reflections of what we had learnt, seen & experienced. The children were so engaged in sharing their thoughts.

The children, residents & volunteers gave introductions & Caroline divided them into small groups.

Throughout the session there were drawings, questions & so much chatter about the area they lived. The children were amazed at how things had changed over the years.

Lunch was served by the incredible West Raven Community Cafe, one of the children said it was the highlight of the day, it was a VIP lunch!

After lunch is was time to put everything together to make a digital story...

The children & grown ups created there own stories in their groups, capturing what they had experienced throughout the day, including drawings & photographs. It was wonderful to see them all working together, smiling, laughter & so much enthusiasm.
