The first of this year's visits, in March, took us to Halifax. Again, we were blessed with good, bright weather.
Our first stop was at Bankfield Museum. This excellent museum was once the home of a Victorian Mill owner and philanthropist.
In itself, the building is fascinating to see. I took dozens of photos of room and exhibits, far too many to print.
There were two main exhibitions. One was dedicated to the Duke of Wellington Regiment. It was interesting to see the various items and clothes used by the Duke at the Battle of Waterloo. You could then move through the timeline of the Regiment, including modern day conflicts.
The other main exhibition was of costumes used in television series, which had been filmed in and around Halifax. There were dozens of displays, but the main one was from Gentleman Jack.
I can highly recommend this museum with its various displays of history, old shops, paintings and textiles. It also has a lovely cafe. Entrance is free, all that is asked is for a donation.
I think we could have all spent much longer than the two hours we allotted. However, we then moved on to the Piece Hall. There, we enjoyed the shops and cafes, or visits to the Cathedral, the market or simply sitting in the sunshine!
