In celebration of their 40th anniversary, we’ve sponsored St Giles Hospice’s March of the Elephants sculpture trail. The art trail, in partnership with World renowned event experts Wild in Art, runs from July-September 2024 across Lichfield, Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield and will feature elephant sculptures decorated by local and national artists, designers and illustrators.
We’re excited to announce that our artist is Sri Lankan born, chef, florist and creative, Gayani Ariyaratne. She will bring her unique botanical style of painting to our large elephant sculpture and we’ll also hope to share her cookery and floral skills with our Members as a bonus. We’ll keep you posted in the lead up to March of the Elephants.
What’s more, we received a small elephant ‘calf’ sculpture that we’ve gifted to Streethay Primary School for the children to paint with their own design. Our western Member & Community Relationship Officer, is working with the school to deliver workshops and inspiration over the coming months. We’ll share their planning and design ideas as we go.
Look out for promotional material in the Central Co-op shops and funeral homes closest to the trail and updates across social media and on our Member blog to keep everyone informed.
These popular art trails have been known to bring increased footfall to areas, providing opportunities for local businesses, as well as generating positive profile for the charity concerned, artists involved and supporters.
But most of all, March of the Elephants will bring a moment of joy to local communities and thousands of visitors this summer.
