Black History Month 2021
Date Published: 23/09/2021 | Blog category: Other
Black History Month runs from the 1 - 31 October every year. It presents everyone with the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of African Caribbean heritage and culture in Britain and across the world.
Black British History month was first celebrated in London in 1987, as part of African Jubilee Year.
34 years later and Black History Month is more relevant now than ever. The global responses to the murder of George Floyd, the national outcry with Wendy Williams' report on the Windrush Scandal and the controversial Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities Report all share a common theme in their demand for greater knowledge of African Caribbean’s contribution to British society as a way forward in dismantling racism in society.
Look out for events, films, interviews, TV programmes and other chances to learn more throughout October. We will also share highlights and opportunities here on our blog pages.
