Careers Day at Maplewell School

Colleagues from across the Society took place in the first of two careers day with Maplewell School near Loughborough. The school supports students with learning disabilities and has partnered with Central Co-op to prepare students for the world of work. The students were given the opportunity to learn about different roles within our Society to give them an idea of the diverse range of roles that we have from working in our funeral or retail business to working in floristry or supports roles at our Business Support Centre. They also learned about our rich history and why co-ops are different.
The following feedback from received from the Head of the School:-
"Overwhelming positive feedback from all students and teachers
- He’s even had parents contact the school to say thanks to us and the school for the event (this is a first for the school!)
- We captured student engagement – evidenced through the questions being asked
- We pitched the content just right – given these are SEN students with varying abilities we didn’t reduce the content but made it simple and engaging with good use of language
- Our approach was friendly, informative and not at all patronising (which can often be the case with employers working with SEN students)".
We are looking forward to returning on 10th February 2023 to the Post 16 year groups.
