Celebrating Co-ops

The first week of Co-op Fortnight got off to a flying start for the Southern Membership & Community Council. Last Monday, we visited a group of local people in Coalville who are taking over a small allotment and want to change it into a community space. They are interested in setting up as a co-operative member group and we are in the early stages of looking at opportunities to support them.
We are pleased to be welcoming back our Soft Furnishing Course, who will run for 4 weeks as trial at the Salvation Army Centre in Leicester, and we are also pleased to be welcoming back our Oakham Co-op Women's Group during the fortnight.
On Friday, members joined Co-op Congress, which this year took place on line, with interesting presentations from Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester, and Debbie Robinson, our CEO, amongst others.
On Sunday, MCC members supported a Fun Day at our Rugby Store, and promoted the benefits of our membership.
Lastly, we have produced a fun Co-op Fortnight Worksheet for children aged 8yrs-11yrs to learn all about the Co-op movement and the power of co-operation.
