Free Education Activity from Central Co-op Membership

Central Co-op Membership and Community Councils offer free Education activity for School, Education Settings and Community Groups as part of its offering to the community. The workshops give young people a fun and friendly way to understand important topics on Food, Healthy Eating, Fairtrade, Ethics, Finance, Democracy, and Co-op Business.
Healthy Choices Workshop:
A 1‑2 hour workshop providing a greater understanding of a healthy balanced diet. The workshop covers topics such as five a day, food labelling, traffic lights, portion sizes and food waste. Our tailor made workshops are designed for all ages and abilities.
Savvy Shopping:
A one hour activity inviting children into a local Central England Co‑operative Store. Students work in teams to purchase a meal for four adults using a set budget, then scan it through our checkouts.
Fairtrade & Co‑operative History:
A 15 minute presentation/assembly, or one hour workshops on Fairtrade and the Co‑operative Movement. Explaining the background to Fairtrade products, and how they are linked to the way we trade.
Shopping Ethically:
A one hour activity inviting children into a local Central England Co‑operative store. The students are given a question sheet relating to ethical and Fairtrade products that we stock in store.
The Co‑operative Values workshop:
Central England Co‑operative, in partnership with the UK’s largest children’s health and wellbeing charity, Coram Life Education SCARF, have produced an exciting new resource for children age 9‑11. The Co‑operative Values workshop explores the universally relevant values of the Co‑operative Movement, from its earliest days to the present, using exciting and interactive teaching resources and methods.
Mind your Money:
A fun and interactive game addressing how we spend our money. This is aimed at Senior Schools and adults around understanding the value of money. It covers areas of employment from casual work, fixed term contracts to full time work and what they all mean. Different business models including self employed, the Gig economy and Co‑operatives. It concludes with a Board game using paper money to show its value, looks at budgeting and understanding a payslip. The game addresses different scenarios that happen in people’s life and the impacts.
Co‑operative Masterclass:
15‑to‑17 year olds can learn about the importance of Co‑operatives during this full day event. Throughout the day they will have the opportunity to create and plan their own Co‑operative business, creating a business plan and presenting it all at the end of the session.
